Letter to the Editor:
Tomorrow's election is an interesting one in that five people of various backgrounds, skill sets and motivations are running for the two open spots. I personally think it's great that this is not an uncontested race and one with plenty of enthusiasm all around. All candidates bring something to the table.
For me, the two candidates best suited for the position based on their experience, reasons for running, and desire for real change are and . I recently got to know Joey but have admired her perseverance from afar for her efforts with Project Enroll Now (PEN). BOTTITTA's involvement in the community and hard work with PEN demonstrates she is not afraid of difficult challenges and can make a difference. KASAL's desire for collaboration and her vision for balancing the need for a high quality education with the financial realities of the day bodes well for all residents with her election. Further, her emphasis on building a strong foundation so our students are better prepared for college is part of the critical thinking that the BOE needs to undertake.
While we, like many in the District, send our kids to parochial school as a matter of choice based on our beliefs and experience; we also want to see Malverne 12 succeed and thrive. We also want BOE Trustees that are excellent stewards of taxpayer dollars who don't throw money at problems and work for the public interest. We need Trustees who are not afraid to challenge the status quo such as reviewing the opportunities and challenges of consolidation, seeking additional contributions by all employees and staff for medical & related benefits to be on par with the private sector and do it in a dignified manner that doesn't demean the professionals affected.
Vote for BOTTITTA and KASAL tomorrow May 15th.
Sincerely,
Tom Grech
Malverne Resident
