Malverne - West Hempstead Patch Turns 1!

A look back at our first 365 days of covering our two great local communities.

Happy (Belated) Birthday Malverne-West Hempstead Patch!

We were so busy covering , and (Go Pride of Malverne!) that we forgot to celebrate our own birthday!

On Nov. 2, Malverne-West Hempstead Patch turned 1!

The site launched on Election Day 2010 - a day this Local Editor remembers vividly as my car was in the shop and I had to use my bicycle to get around to all the polling places in the community.

Then, just days later, our newborn news publication alsoin the parking lot of Davison Avenue Intermediate School, which was later ruled to be arson. 

Since then we have become ingrained in the communities of Malverne and West Hempstead thanks to friendly, caring and engaged residents like you who have embraced our team of reporters and photographers with open arms. With your help, we have coverd the latest developments in the local schools, government, businesses, youth sports and other aspects of your lives. At time it feels hard to believe that we've only been here for a year!

During that time we have celebrated some great successes including two New York State in Malverne and West Hempstead High School of "America's Best High Schools."

We have captured milestones including , , and We were there as you enjoyed unique local traditions like the, the n West Hempstead, , and

We helped you make sense of and brought you the results for and elections quicker than anyone else. We never missed an important meeting and kept you updated on construction projects including the in Malverne.

When there was a problem such as r, and we were on it. When rumors made their way around town, And when struck we kept you in the know.

In our first year here, we've seen and and. We watched one in West Hempstead where . We also saw the restoration of our , the at the stables and we continue to follow the developments at vacant properties in Malverne.

Sadly, the year also brought too followed by to honor the of those who are no longer with us.
