My family voted YES to the school budget, only to find out within days after it was passed the Malverne School District is cutting back by removing school bus monitors. As a parent with several children in the school system for many years I believe this to be a real safety issue. Over the years my children have told me stories of misconduct on the bus and I can't imagine how these actions would have played out if there wasn't an adult monitor. Not to mention how many times young children fall asleep on the bus. Mine have. The driver can't possibly divert his attention to deal with these matters.
I hope other parents speak up and question this poor decision. I cringe to think what else this administration will decide to cut. certainly not their pay raises.
