Brooklyn Man Convicted of Robbing Two Lynbrook Teens

Nassau judge finds Kyare Starks guilty of New Year's Day robbery.

A Brooklyn man was convicted of robbing two Lynbrook teenagers this past New Year's Day. The decision was handed down Tuesday by Nassau County Judge George Peck.

"[Yesterday's] verdict ensures that a dangerous and violent criminal will be off the streets and locked in a prison cell where he belongs," said Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice.

Kyare Starks, 20, of Brooklyn, was convicted of two counts of robbery in the second degree and one count of grand larceny in the fourth degree. He faces up to 15 years in prison. His sentencing is set for Dec. 14.

According to Rice, two 16-year-old Lynbrook residents were walking southbound on Neimann Avenue in Lynbrook when Starks and two other men exited a parked vehicle and confronted them. Rice said Starks pulled out a BB gun and the three proceeded to steal cash, a hat, jacket and phones before fleeing the scene.

A subsequent investigation led police to an apartment in Brooklyn, where it was discovered that one of the men had one of the stolen phones on him. Starks was arrested at the scene. The other two men have not been identified.

Starks' attorney, Gregory Madey of Mineola, could not immediately be reached for comment.
