Update: Car Carrying Toddlers Crashes Into Tree, One Child Suffers Cardiac Arrest

Family transported to hospital after accident, which has southbound traffic shut down on Ocean Avenue.

UPDATE: Lynbrook police reported that one of the 3-year-olds involved in the crash was in cardiac arrest when she was sent to the hospital this afternoon. Lynbrook Police Chief Joseph Neve told reporters that the girl was sitting in her child-safety seat in the car, but may not have been properly fastened.

A car travelling south on Ocean Avenue this afternoon collided into a tree near Lawrence Avenue in Lynbrook, just past the Malverne-Lynbrook border.

The accident occurred around 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 7. The three occupants of the vehicle, a father and his twin 3-year-olds, a girl and a boy, were transported in an ambulance to South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside.

As of late Tuesday, Lynbrook Police said the girl was in serious condition. The driver and the other passenger, a 3-year-old boy who was properly secured in his seat, did not suffer any serious injuries. Police said that no drugs or alcohol were involved.

The southbound lanes of Ocean Avenue were temporarily closed off as police conducted their investigation of the accident. The road was reopened at about 4:30 p.m.
