Car Catches Fire As Driver Cools at Echo Park Pool
While swimmer escapes heat in West Hempstead, the patron's car isn't as lucky.
While a patron at Echo Park Pool in West Hempstead enjoyed some temporary relief from Friday's scorching temperatures things were heating upside the swimmer's car.
The West Hempstead Fire Department and Nassau County Police were called to the parking lot of the Town of Hempstead park just after 4 p.m., where smoke was reportedly coming from a small sedan.
When they arrived, they found flames emitting from the vehicle. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze but not before substantial damage had been done to the car.
