UPDATE: Car Crashes Into West Hempstead CVS

Lakeview FD and Nassau County Police respond to crash Friday.

Update: Friday, July 6, 4:18 p.m.

A CVS employee confirmed that the West Hempstead store on Hempstead Avenue has re-opened. The store had been closed down late Friday afternoon by Nassau County due to an accident, which caused damage to the store's foundational structure. It was re-opened at 4 p.m. after the building inspector surveyed the property.

Original Story

A female driver lost control of her vehicle Friday afternoon and crashed into the in West Hempstead.

The women, a senior citizen, had apparently hit the gas by mistake, jumped the curb and slammed into the side of the Hempstead Avenue store around 12:30 p.m. The crash damaged one of the building's brick exterior walls.

Those inside the store heard a "loud boom" and came outside to see the grey sedan pressed into the side of the building. 

Lakeview firefighters, Nassau County Police and EMS responded to the scene. The driver did not appear to have not suffered any major injuries.
