Car Slams Into Pole, Fence Outside LIAW Plant
Crash cracks utility pole and takes down fence near Long Island American Water building.
A driver lost control of his vehicle and smashed into a utility pole and a fence on Franklin Avenue Monday night.
The crash occurred just after 9 p.m. near the Malverne-Lynbrook border. The driver was headed southbound on Franklin Avenue and as he approached Edward Street, his car crossed oncoming traffic and left the roadway. It smashed into and cracked a utility pole, and then mowed down a fence outside Long Island American Water's iron filtration plant.
The crash disrupted power to the Long Island American Water facility, causing the emergency generator to turn on.

Members of the Malverne Volunteer Fire Department and Malverne Volunteer Ambulance Corp, and Nassau County Police were on the scene. The driver suffered a broken arm and some bruises, but did not appear to have any serious injuries from the crash, according to Malverne Fire Chief Scott Edwards told Patch.
MVAC transported him to South Nassau hospital.
