A man and a woman were hospitalized late Sunday after being struck by a car on Hempstead Turnpike in West Hempstead, police said.
Cops said a 65-year-old man was driving a 1998 Ford east on Hempstead Turnpike when he struck two people crossing the street. A 31-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman were crossing the road near Garden City Boulevard when the collision happened, police said.
The female victim was airlifted by NCPD to a nearby hospital for "severe head trauma," cops said. The male victim was also brought to a nearby hospital via ambulance for treatment of head trauma, police said.

The driver was brought to a hospital and treated for lacerations to the hands, cops said.
No criminality is suspected in the collision, which took place at about 11:35 p.m. Sunday.

The car was impounded for a safety check after the accident.
The investigation is ongoing.
