Cops Arrest Pair for Robbery at Malverne Gas Station

Witness says altercation occurred Sunday evening at USA station.

Two people were arrested Sunday evening outside the USA gas station in Malverne after Nassau County Police were called in to investigate an alleged robbery.

The gas station, located at the intersection of Hempstead and Ocean avenues, was shut down for several hours as cops and detectives interviewed the two suspects -- a man and a woman driving a red sedan-- and workers at the station.

According to an eyewitness, the pair had pulled into the station around 2:45 p.m. to fuel up their vehicle, but when they went to pay for their gas purchase with a credit card, the station attendant told them the card had been declined and they could only pay cash. When they informed the attendant they they did not have cash, an altercation broke out and the car sped off, but not before someone wrote down their license plate.

The pair was brought back to the scene and asked to provide their accounts of the incident. But around 4:30 p.m., they were handcuffed and taken away in separate patrol cars. Nassau County Police have yet to release information on the incident.
