A West Hempstead man faces a battery of charges after he slammed into a cop car at high speeds while drunk at the wheel, according to Nassau County Police.
Cops said Joseph Garcia, 27, of West Hempstead, was driving a 2004 Hyundai south on Nassau Boulevard when he collided with a marked police car.
The incident happened at 4:30 a.m. Saturday, cops reported.
A police investigation revealed Garcia was under the influence of alcohol and he was arrested at the scene, detectives said.
A Fourth Precinct officer was taken to a nearby hospital where he was treated for neck and back pain and released, police said.
Garcia's car was impounded.
Garcia was charged with third-degree assault, second-degree reckless endangerment, and two counts of driving while intoxicated and imprudent speed. He will be arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Hempstead.
