Cops Searching for West Hempstead Bank Robber

Nassau County Police are searching for a man they said robbed a West Hempstead bank Monday afternoon.

Detectives said an unidentified man went to Chase Bank on Hempstead Turnpike and presented a demand note to a teller. The teller cooperated and handed over an undisclosed amount of cash, cops said. The man fled in east on Hempstead Turnpike.

The robbery was reported at 1:38 p.m. Monday.

Nine employees and 11 customers were present at the time of the robbery. None of them were reportedly injured.

The subject is described as a black man in his 30s, 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall, and a medium stocky build. He was wearing a Rastafarian-style hat, a wig, and eyeglasses at the time.

Detectives are asking anyone with information about the robbery to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
