Cops: West Hempstead Man on Drugs, Crashes into Several Parked Cars

Man struck multiple vehicles and continued driving on Hempstead Turnpike and Nassau Boulevard, police said.

A West Hempstead man was allegedly on drugs when he crashed his vehicle into several others Saturday, cops said.

According to police, 911 received calls of a vehicle being involved in numerous accidents and moving on to Hempstead Turnpike in Franklin Square. The driver, Leonard Dunne, 47, was the sole occupant of his 2001 Dodge Dakota.

Dunne allegedly continued driving without reporting the incidents. Next, he traveled southbound on Nassau Boulevard and struck several more parked cars, cops said. He ended up on the front lawn of a residence near the Roosevelt Avenue and Nassau Boulevard intersection.

When cops arrived, they said Dunne was intoxicated. He was transported to a nearby hospital due to a broken nose and facial lacerations. He was the only person requiring medical attention, even though he failed to report six separate incidents, police added.

Dunne's charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, driving while ability impaired by drugs, two counts of leaving the scene of an incident without reporting, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, uninspected motor vehicle, unregistered motor vehicle and uninsured motor vehicle.
