Crime Nearby: Drunk Driver Flees Accident in Garden City

A round-up of the top crime stories of the week from neighboring communities.

The following information was supplied by the Nassau County Police Department, Rockville Centre Police Department and Garden City Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation, and does not indicate guilt.

Arrests

  • On July 22 at 3:45 p.m., Ernesto A. Rodriguez, 25, of Baldwin, was arrested for petit larceny following an investigation by police personnel at Game Stop, located at 311 Merrick Road in Rockville Centre.

  • On July 24 at 3:22 a.m., Keith McNally, 44, of Lynbrook, was arrested for driving while intoxicated and a vehicle and traffic law violation following an investigation by police personnel on Sunrise Highway and N. Park Avenue in Rockville Centre.

  • On July 26 at 4:02 a.m., Matthew A. Sylvester, 25, Plantsville, Conn. was arrested for assault in the third degree following an investigation by police personnel at 127 Sunrise Highway in Rockville Centre.

  • On July 26 at 4:02 a.m., Joseph J. Charette, 27, Southington, Conn., was arrested for assault in the third degree following an investigation by police personnel at 127 Sunrise Highway in Rockville Centre.

  • On July 27 at 5:20 a.m., David J. Valentin, 26, of North Bellmore, was arrested for driving while intoxicated following an accident investigation by police personnel in the vicinity of Hempstead Avenue in Rockville Centre.

  • On July 26 at 5:28 p.m., James D. Walsh, 39, of Rockaway, was arrested for grand larceny in the fourth degree following an investigation by police personnel in the vicinity of 173 Sunrise Highway in Rockville Centre.

  • On July 28 at 9:46 p.m., Willis A. Clarke, 27, of Brooklyn, was arrested for criminal mischief in the fourth degree and menacing in the third degree following an investigation by police personnel on Meehan Lane in Rockville Centre.

  • On July 29 at 12:50 a.m., Miguel Ramirez, 51, of Rockville Centre, was arrested for driving while intoxicated and a vehicle and traffic law violation following an investigation by police personnel on Merrick Road and N. Park Avenue in Rockville Centre.

  • On Aug. 4, Garden City police officers responded to a report of an accident on Meadow Street where a vehicle struck two trees and a fire hydrant. Witnesses state that the operator of the vehicle fled the scene on foot in an easterly direction. One officer searched the area and discovered the suspect, a 23-year-old male from Hempstead, on Cedar Place in Garden City. As a result of the investigation, the operator was arrested for DWI (.12 percent blood alcohol content), unlicensed operation and leaving the scene of an accident.

  • On Aug. 5, a Garden City police officer stopped a commercial vehicle on Washington Avenue for an improperly secured license plate and other equipment violations. The driver, a 34-year-old male from Copiague, was subsequently arrested for having no license and four open driver license suspensions.

  • On Aug. 5, a Garden City police officer arrested a 46-year-old male from Levittown for the theft of nine cans of baby formula from CVS.

  • On Aug. 6, a 28-year-old male from Brooklyn was arrested for the theft of three bottles of soft drinks from a Franklin Avenue restaurant on Aug. 5 and 6.

  • Assault

    • On July 26 at 2 a.m., two complainants from Carle Place reported that they were assaulted by unknown persons while at 23 N. Park Ave in Rockville Centre. The assaults resulted in facial injuries to both complainants and both sought medical treatment on their own at Winthrop University Hospital.
