Crime Nearby: Pizzeria Owner Busted for Selling Drugs, Officer Dragged

Suffolk County Police arrested a Rockville Centre resident and West Babylon pizzeria owner Tuesday who was allegedly selling illegal prescription pills out of his restaurant.

According to police, First Squad detectives, in conjunction with officers from the First Precinct Community Oriented Police Enforcement (COPE) Section, completed a three-month investigation into the illegal sale of prescription drugs at Miceli Brothers Pizzeria and Restaurant Tuesday evening.

The owner of the restaurant, Francesco Miceli, 50, of Rockville Centre, allegedly sold quantities of illegal Oxycodone hydrochloride pills to a police agent on numerous occasions, police said.

Police: Man Dragged Officer With Car

An Island Park man was arrested on Thursday after he allegedly dragged a police officer with his vehicle after receiving a ticket, police said. He then allegedly violently resisted arrest.

At 3:52 p.m., William Quinn, 60, was stopped by a Fourth Precinct police officer at Island Parkway and Southard Drive for operating a 2005 Toyota with excessively tinted windows, according to police.

After receiving a traffic summons, Quinn allegedly became “agitated” and accelerated the vehicle, police said. The officer was dragged about 20 feet, knocking him to the ground.

He was able to enter his police vehicle and follow the defendant, stopping him at Island Parkway and Suffolk Road.

Quinn then allegedly placed his vehicle into reverse and fled westbound on Island Parkway. Further police assistance responded and the defendant was stopped at Long Beach Road and Island Parkway.

Quinn refused to be handcuffed, flailing his arms and attempted to pull away from officers. He was eventually placed into custody.

The injured officer was taken to a local hospital where he was treated and released for abrasions and contusions to his arms, shoulders and legs.

A man in his mid-thirties was killed early Sunday after he was struck by at least two vehicles while walking along the Southern State Parkway in West Hempstead, according to Newsday [paid link].

New York State troopers say "the man, who was born in 1976 and was from either Brooklyn or Queens, was walking in the westbound right or center lane of the Southern State Parkway near Exit 17 at about 2:20 a.m. when he was struck by a motorcyclist and a BMW," according to the article.

The driver of a small sedan was able to escape his car just before it burst into flames late Wednesday afternoon on the West Hempstead-Franklin Square border.

Franklin Square firefighters arrived quickly at the scene near Willow Road and extinguished the blaze. Nassau County Police also responded. The driver did not sustain any injuries.

A 6-year-old Lakeview girl who nearly drowned in her neighbor's pool was saved on May 13 by the quick response of police and local volunteers.

The s ambulance was driving back from Winthrop Hospital after responding to an earlier call, when it was flagged down by a Nassau County Police officer who was looking for an address, Lakeview Fire Chief Heather Senti told Patch.

"Upon our arrival, Nassau County Police Department cars 511 and 516 were running up the street with the child in their arms," Senti said. "They immediately jumped in our ambulance, where our Paramedic and EMT's began patient care [and] "two additional ALS (Advanced Life Support) providers from the N.C.P.D. jumped in to assist."

The girl had allegedly wandered into the backyard of a home two houses down from hers and fell into the neighbor's pool. It was unknown how long she had been in the water.

The child, who is also autistic, was in cardiac arrest, Senti said, but "due to the life-saving actions of the entire crew, Lakeview and Nassau County Police working, she was revived and was stable enough to be transferred to Schneider's Children's Hospital for additional treatment."
