Crime Watch: Arrests at West Hempstead Business, Car Thefts

See what crimes were committed this week in Malverne, West Hempstead, Lakeview and surrounding areas

The following information was supplied by the Nassau County Police. A criminal charge is only an accusation, and does not indicate convictions.

UNAUTHORIZED PRACTICE 

In response to community complaints, the Nassau County Police's Vice Squad conducted an investigation of Acupuncture Oriental Body Work located on Hempstead Turnpike in West Hempstead. It led to the arrests of Shuli Sun, of Hicksville, and Meiqin Shen, of Flushing, on Jan. 25, and four summonses were issued by the Town of Hempstead Building Department.

PROHIBITED SALE OF ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGE

Nassau County Police's POP Unit conducted an investigation at Vero Bere and Mexican Deli on Savoy Avenue in Elmont in response to community complaints. They arrested Raul Flores, of Elmont, on Jan. 25 after allegedly sold an alcoholic beverage to an underaged police agent and failed to ask for proof of age.

The POP Unit also conducted an investigation at Gurcharan & Brothers Oil Corp. located on W. Merrick Road in Valley Stream that resulted in the arrest of Bahadur Singh, of Fresh Meadows. Singh allegedly sold an alcoholic beverage to an underage police agent and did not ask for proof of age. Cops say he is a repeat offender. 

BURGLARIES

On Jan. 30, a Valley Stream home on Thompson Street was burglarized.

A home on Hathaway Avenue in Elmont was burglarized on Jan. 25.

A burglary occurred on Jan. 28 at JFK Carpet on Hempstead Turnpike in Elmont.

GRAND LARCENIES

Two cars were stolen while parked in Valley Stream last week. The first vehicle was taken from a location on Fenwood Drive between Jan. 24 and Jan. 26, and the other had been parked outside a residence on Brentwood Lane. In the second case, police say a surveillance camera was in place but did not record the incident.

LARCENIES/OTHER THEFTS

A GPS was stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked on S. Cherry Valley Avenue in West Hempstead between Jan. 26 and Jan. 27.

Tools were stolen from a vehicle parked in front of a home on Rosalind Avenue in Elmont between Jan. 23 and Jan. 24. The vehicle sustained no damage, according to the report.

A laptop and GPS were stolen from an unlocked car parked on Emporia Avenue in Elmont between Jan. 29 and Jan. 30.

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF

An unknown person threw a glass bottle through the rear windshield of a vehicle parked on Landau Avenue in Elmont between Jan. 26 and Jan. 27, causing it to crack and shatter. An unknown person also broke the driver's side window of another car parked on Elmont Road.
