Crime Watch: Stolen Canoe, Racetrack Robbed, Car Thefts
A look at crimes around the neighborhood this week.
The following information was supplied by the Nassau County Police Department's Fifth Precinct, which covers West Hempstead, Valley Stream, Elmont, Franklin Square and Lynbrook.
BURGLARIES
Two homes in Valley Stream and one in North Valley Stream were burglarized between Aug. 26 and Aug. 28. The houses were located n Fletcher Avenue, Barry Drive W. and E. Valley Stream Boulevard.

The Belmont Racetrack in Elmont was burglarized on Aug. 26.
Two businesses in Franklin Square, an unnamed store on Hempstead Turnpike and Tulip Caterers on Tulip Avenue, were burglarized between Aug. 26 and Aug. 28.

Tydor Wines and Liquors on Elmont Road in Elmont was burglarized overnight on Aug. 28 to Aug. 29.
GRAND LARCENIES
A vehicle was stolen in Lakeview on Aug. 27 while parked on Saranac Road.
Three cars were stolen in Valley Stream between Aug. 23 and Aug. 26. One was parked at Green Acres Mall, another on Circle Drive West and the third on Lyon Street, where the keys had been left inside.
A car parked on Sterling Road in Elmont overnight between Aug. 22 and Aug. 23 was stolen. A motorcycle was also stolen while parked on Hempstead Turnpike in Elmont on Aug. 23.
A wallet was reportedly stolen in Green Acres Mall in Valley Stream on Aug. 25.
Tires and rims were stolen off of two cars parked in Elmont - one Hathaway Avenue and Albany Street - and one on N. Corona Avenue in Valley Stream between Aug. 22 and Aug. 29.
LARCENIES/ OTHER THEFTS
A canoe was stolen from a West Hempstead home on Chestnut Street overnight between Aug. 25 and Aug. 26.
License plates were stolen off cars parked in Elmont on Hempstead Turnpike on Aug. 22. and Greenway Boulevard on Aug. 26.
Outdoor lights were stolen from a home under construction on Lewis Avenue in Elmont between Aug. 22 and Aug. 23.
A bicycle and helmet were stolen on Amherst Road in Valley Stream on Aug. 24. Another bike was stolen on Aug. 26 on Hempstead Turnpike in Franklin Square.
A catalytic converter was stolen off of a vehicle parked on South Grove Street in Valley Stream overnight between Aug. 25 and Aug. 26.
A cell phone was stolen near the intersection of Dutch Broadway and Fletcher Avenue on Aug. 23, a wallet on Carnegie Avenue on Aug. 25, and cash on Roquette Avenue between Aug. 26 and Aug. 27, all in Elmont.
A mailbox was stolen from a home on Croydon Road in Elmont on Aug. 21.
CRIMINAL MISCHIEF
An unknown subjected entered an unlocked vehicle parked on Wilson Road in Valley Stream between Aug. 23 and Aug. 24 and damaged the glove box.
Two tires were slashed on a vehicle parked on Benson Avenue in Elmont on Aug. 24.
An unknown subject scratched a vehicle parked on Dutch Broadway in Valley Stream between Aug. 23 and Aug. 24.
