Crimes Nearby: Lynbrook Man Charged With Rape, Valley Stream Teens Arrested

A roundup of the top crime stories for the week in communities near Malverne and West Hempstead.

Police arrested a Lynbrook man and charged him with second-degree rape after they say he lured a 13-year-old girl to his home after meeting her on Facebook.

Lynbrook police arrested Saul Reyanldo Reyes, 26, on Saturday, Dec. 22 at 12:10 a.m. at his home where the crime allegedly occurred. Reyes is also charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

Rape in the second degree is a Class D felony in New York State. A person is guilty of the crime when the subject is 18 years old or older, and engages in sexual intercourse with another person less than 15 years old, according to the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services.

Second-degree rape is punishable by up to seven years in prison.

Teens Arrested for Burglaries in Valley Stream

Three teenagers were arrested last Tuesday after they allegedly committed two burglaries in Valley Stream, according to police.

A 911 call was placed around 6:56 p.m. for three males entering a side window at a Bittersweet Lane residence, police said. When cops arrived, the suspects fled on foot. A short search of the neighborhood resulted in the arrests of Justin Urban, 16, of Valley Stream and two juveniles ages 14 and 15.

An investigation by police subsequent to their arrests revealed that the defendants also committed a second burglary that day at an Eastwood Lane residence. There were no proceeds.

Urban was also charged with two additional burglaries committed on Sept. 26, 2011 and Dec. 19, 2011 at Valley Stream homes on Hungry Harbor Road and Todd Road. Proceeds from both homes were jewelry and clothing.

Urban was charged with four counts of burglary in the second degree and menacing in the second degree. The two juveniles are each charged with two counts of Burglary.

Two men were arrested early Saturday in Inwood after they allegedly attacked a 34-year-old man outside an eatery.

According to police, around 4:47 a.m., the 34-year-old victim was leaving , located at 199 Mott Ave., when he saw a large disturbance in the parking lot. Osvaldo Bonilla 20, of Lawrence, and Richey Rodriguez 23, of Inwood, then approached the victim and repeatedly struck him in the face and head, knocking him to the ground. While on the ground, an unknown black male hit the victim with a tire iron.

Fourth Precinct police officers responded to the scene and saw two other male victims, ages 23 and 32, lying on the ground, police said. When police attempted to arrest Rodriguez, he fought with officers and was eventually placed into custody.

According to police, all victims were taken to local hospitals. The 34 year old was treated and released for a fractured rib. The 32 year old was treated and released for numerous contusions and abrasions. The 23 year old was admitted for blunt trauma to the torso and is listed in critical condition.

The investigation is ongoing.

Bonilla and Rodriguez were charged with assault in the second degree. Rodriguez was also charged with resisting arrest. They are scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Sunday.
