Crimes Nearby: Fatal Accident, Robbery in Valley Stream

A rundown of crime and other incidents in areas surrounding Malverne and West Hempstead.

The following information was supplied by the Nassau, Lynbrook and Rockville Centre police departments. A criminal charge is only an accusation, and does not indicate convictions.

Both lanes on the Loop Parkway were closed as police investigate a fatal multi-car accident there Friday morning.

At about 7:12 a.m., three cars collided in the westbound lane at the parkway’s drawbridge after one motorist hit a second motorist in the rear of this car, according to New York State Police. One male driver was killed in the accident.

Two men were struck by an SUV near the intersection of Merrick Road and John Street in Lynbrook at 9 p.m. on Thursday.
According to Lynbrook Fire Department 1st Assistant Chief Anthony DeCarlo, the men were relatives — one man in his 30s and the other in his 20s. The younger man suffered neck and back injuries and was transported to the trauma unit at South Nassau Communities Hospital. The other man had a leg injury, and was treated locally.

Further details of the incident were not immediately available.

Woman Robbed in Valley Stream

A woman was robbed while sitting outside her home in a lawn chair in Valley Stream in Friday afternoon.

According to detectives, a black male approached the 63-year-old female victim around 1 p.m. on Aug. 12 while she was seated in a chair outside on Broadway. He allegedly ripped her gold chains from her neck. The woman tried to put up a fight,  but was unsuccessful in retaining her property and received minor cuts on her neck. The suspect fled the scene westbound toward Queens County.  Police describe the subject as 6 foot black male, around 20 to 30 years old  with a Jamaican accent. He was wearing a cream colored T-shirt and plaid shorts when the incident occurred.

Arrests

  • Thomas J. Crompton, 33, of Levittown, was arrested on July 25 and charged with petit larceny for shoplifting from CVS, located at 155 Sunrise Highway, on July 18.
  • Anthony C. Miles Jr., 38, of Staten Island, was arrested on July 26 and charged with driving while intoxicated and two counts of first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle after being involved in an auto accident at Lakeview Avenue/N. Centre Avenue in Rockville Centre. The defendant and two occupants in the second vehicle suffered non-life threatening injuries.
  • Cristobal Rivera Jr., 24, of Hartford, Conn., was arrested on July 27 and charged with two counts of fifth-degree criminal possession of marijuana during an investigation on Sunrise Highway in Rockville Centre.
  • Police units responded on July 27 to a report of youths firing air/bb guns inside the fenced area of property owned by the Village of Rockville Centre (south of Bligh Field). Five males, one 16 year old and four juveniles were apprehended. The juveniles were processed and will answer the charges in Family Court.
  • Wesley R. Morrissey, 34, of Baldwin, was arrested on July 30 and charged with second-degree harassment and disorderly conduct in the vicinity of MPF No. 1 in Rockville Centre.
  • Giovanni D. Grandison, 17, of Hicksville, was arrested on July 31 and charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of marijuana in the vicinity of 215 Sunrise Highway in Rockville Centre.
