Crimes Nearby: Forcible Touching Arrest in Garden City

Arrest Made in Mugging of Elderly Couple

Nassau County police have arrested an Oceanside man in connection with Wednesday night's mugging of an elderly couple in Rockville Centre.

Paul Topple, 24, was arrested and charged by police after he allegedly used the victim’s stolen credit card at several stores to make purchases. Police said they were able to identify him after reviewing video surveillance at several locations where he made purchases.

Arrests

  • On May 1 at 1:18 a.m., Thomas R. Koehler, 25, of Oceanside, was arrested for criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, criminal possession of a hypodermic and a vehicle and traffic law violation following an investigation by police personnel at S. Centre Avenue and S. Village Avenue in Rockville Centre.
  • On May 2 at 8 p.m., Lois E. Springer, 66, of Brooklyn, was arrested for driving while intoxicated following a motor vehicle accident investigation by police personnel in the vicinity of Sunrise Highway in Rockville Centre.
  • On May 2 at 10:32 p.m., Rashawn J. Strozier, 21, of Rockville Centre, was arrested for unlawful possession of marijuana and vehicle and traffic law violations following an investigation by police personnel in the vicinity of Municipal Parking Field No. 16 in Rockville Centre.
  • On May 3 at 1:39 a.m., Frank J. Alagia, 22, of Rockville Centre, was arrested for petit larceny and an open Nassau County warrant following an investigation by police personnel in the vicinity of N. Park Avenue in Rockville Centre.
  • On May 4 at 4:47 a.m., Howard N. Hylton, 42, of Amityville, was arrested for aggravated unlicensed operation in the second degree and vehicle and traffic law violations following an investigation by police personnel in the vicinity of Sunrise Highway and Oceanside Road in Rockville Centre.
  • On May 5 at 10:27 p.m., Kevin P. Jones, 23, of Garden City was arrested for disorderly conduct following an investigation by police personnel in the vicinity of N. Park Avenue in Rockville Centre.
  • On May 5 at 2:03 a.m., Mitchel J. Golden, 23, of Mahopac, N.Y., was arrested for criminal mischief in the third degree and harassment in the second degree following an investigation by police personnel in the vicinity of N. Park Avenue in Rockville Centre.
  • On May 9, upon seeing a vehicle stopped on Stewart Avenue at Arthur Street at 4 a.m. in the middle lane with its lights off, a Garden City police officer conducted an investigation that resulted in the arrest of a 22-year-old female from Woodside for DWI (.10 percent blood alcohol content), impeding traffic, defective headlights and uninsured operation.
  • On May 9, a Garden City police officer arrested a 54-year-old male and a 34-year-old female, both from Brooklyn, for attempting to extort $6,000 from a Whitestone male at his Garden City place of business by threatening to go public with a false claim against him.
  • On May 11, a Garden City police officer stopped a vehicle for speeding on Franklin Avenue resulting in the driver, a 22-year-old male from Brentwood, being arrested for aggravated DWI (.19 percent blood alcohol content), aggravated unlicensed operation, speeding and driving without headlights on.
  • On May 12, Garden City and Nassau County officers arrested a 51-year-old male from Lawrence at Adelphi for assault as a result of a domestic incident that occurred in West Hempstead.
  • On May 12, a Garden City police officer arrested a 21-year-old male from Manhasset on Ninth Street for DWI (drugs), aggravated unlicensed operation first degree due to a prior DWI Incident and aggravated unlicensed operation 2nd degree due to three open license suspensions.
  • On May 12, a Garden City police officer arrested a 36-year-old female from Queens for the theft of three watches valued at $60 from Sears.
  • On May 14, upon their investigation, Garden City detectives arrested a 24-year-old male from Queens for forcible touching and harassment due to an incident that occurred in his vehicle with a female victim on May 9.
