Crimes Nearby: Garden City Middle School Custodian Arrested

A round-up of the top crime stories of the week from neighboring communities.

The following information was supplied by the Nassau County Police Department, Rockville Centre Police Department and Garden City Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation, and does not indicate guilt.

Arrests

  • On April 17 at 3:10 a.m., Christopher J. Rosario, 43 of Lynbrook, was arrested for aggravated unlicensed operation in the second degree following an investigation by police personnel at Sunrise Highway and N. Long Beach Road in Rockville Centre.
  • On April 19 at 3:48 a.m., Nnamdi Ihim, 24, of Merrick, was arrested for driving while intoxicated following an investigation in the vicinity of Merrick Road and Yorktown Street in Rockville Centre.
  • On April 24, a Garden City police officer observed a 27-year-old male from Mineola driving his vehicle on Old Country Road at a very low rate of speed impeding traffic, while driving in and out of his lane. He was subsequently arrested for Felony DWI (.17 percent blood alcohol content) due to a prior DWI arrest, Felony Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, two lane violations and uninsured operation.
  • On April 24, a cell phone was reported stolen from the cafeteria of Garden City Middle School. On April 25, a Garden City police officer  and detective arrested a custodian -- a 34-year-old male from Freeport -- for the theft of a student’s cell phone at Garden City Middle School on April 24.
  • On April 28, a Garden City police officer stopped a vehicle for erratic driving on Clinton Road that resulted in the arrest of a 38-year-old male from Westbury for DWI (.14 percent blood alcohol content), two lane violations, driving with two license suspensions and uninsured operation.
  • On April 29, Garden City detectives, along with Nassau County Probation officers, participated in the statewide Night Watch Project by visiting several residents in the village who were on probation for various offenses. As a result of these premise checks, a 31-year-old male was arrested for possession of a controlled substance (suboxone) and an open Long Beach Ordinance Warrant, a 46-year-old male was arrested for possession of marijuana and a 21-year-old male was arrested for possession of marijuana.
  • On April 30, as a result of an investigation, Garden City detectives arrested a 29-year-old male from Freeport for a grand larceny at Sears that occurred on Jan. 13, where he and another person used a fraudulent account to buy two televisions and $1,500 in credit cards. The other person, a 23-year-old female from Baldwin, was arrested on Jan. 22.
Case Report
  • On April 27, a 17-year-old female from East Williston was issued an appearance ticket for a loud and disorderly party involving numerous youths at a residence owned by her parent on Lincoln Street in Garden City.
Larceny
  • On April 18 at 8:20 a.m., a complainant reported that sometime between 7 p.m. on April 17 and 8 a.m. on April 18, unknown person(s) stole costume jewelry valued at $400 from a motor vehicle parked in the driveway of a S. Marion Place residence in Rockville Centre.
  • On April 18 at 10:45 a.m., a resident from Rockville Avenue in Rockville Centre reported that sometime between 11 p.m. on April 17 and 8 a.m. on April 18, unknown person(s) stole clothing valued at $350 from a motor vehicle parked in the driveway of his residence
  • On April 18 at 10:52 a.m., a resident from Rockville Avenue in Rockville Centre reported that sometime between 6:30 p.m. on April 17 and 9:15 a.m. on April 18, unknown person(s) stole an iPad Touch and sunglasses from a motor vehicle parked in the driveway of her residence.
  • On April 20 at 3:40 a.m., a Linhurst Place resident reported that her daughter’s friend stole a necklace and earrings from her bedroom while he was inside the home earlier that evening.
  • On April 21 at 1:56 a.m., a Glen Oaks resident reported that unknown person(s) stole her pocketbook containing credit cards, car keys, mobile phone and $100 while it was left unattended at Cabo Restaurant, located at 3 N. Park Ave. in Rockville Centre.
