Crimes Nearby: Mom, Sister of Alleged Sex Abuser Arrested in Murder Plot and More

The following information was obtained from the Nassau County Police and Rockville Centre Police departments. A criminal charge is only an accusation, and does not indicate convictions.

The mother and sister of  were arrested on Tuesday for their alleged roles in the  involving Miller's sex crime victim, according to the Nassau County District Attorney.

Inwood resident Mary Miller, 80, Daniel’s mother, is charged with official misconduct and faces up to a year in jail if convicted. Ann Miller, 59, also of Inwood and Daniel’s sister, is charged with conspiracy in the sixth degree and fourth-degree tampering with a witness. She faces up to a year in jail if convicted.

Both women received desk appearance tickets and are due back in court for arraignment on Aug. 2.

Police arrested Daniel Miller on April 19 and charged the Inwood shop owner with criminal sexual act in the first degree and other charges for allegedly drugging and sexually assaulting a 17-year-old male employee.

Mary works as a secretary at  where the 17-year-old victim goes to school. The source, who Miller and his family allegedly contacted to murder the victim, told the district attorney that Mary had  from the school.

Lawrence Schools Superintendent Gary Schall said he could not discuss the case because it is a personnel matter.

A Rockville Centre resident reported that $40,000 in cash, a diamond ring valued at $1,700 and a U.S. Passport was stolen from her home. An unknown person(s) entered her apartment, located on Banks Avenue, sometime between July 9 at 3 p.m. and July 10 at 8 p.m and stole the property. 

Oceanside Man Caught Stealing Copper Wire

An Oceanside man was arrested for allegedly burglarizing Service Scrap Metal on July 21.

According to Nassau County Police detectives, Michael R. Pickering, 31, forcefully entered the business, located at 3425 Hampton Road in Oceanside, at 5:20 a.m. and unlawfully removed 120 lbs. of spooled cooper wire. Upon police arrival, he fled on foot, illegally entering LIRR property but was apprehended on Royal Avenue.  Pickering resisted arrest but was taken into custody without any injuries reported. All proceeds were recovered.

He is charged with third degree Burglary, Possession of Burglary Tools, Resisting Arrest and Entering a Restricted Area and was arraigned on July 22 in First District Court.

Teen Robbed Walking in Elmont

A 15-year-old boy was robbed July 19 around 9:30 p.m. while walking on Bedford Avenue in Elmont. An unknown suspect exited a small gray older model Nissan, retrieved a baseball bat from the trunk and demanded a silver chain. A second suspect then exited the passenger side of the same vehicle and leaned against the car.  The victim complied and the subjects fled the scene northbound on Bedford Avenue.  Subject #1 is described as a white male, approximately 25 years of age, 6’0”, 165 lbs, with an eyebrow ring and wearing a baseball cap.  Subject #2 is described as a white male with facial hair, approximately 25 years old, 5’9”, 210 lbs, wearing a white T-shirt and jeans.  There were no injuries reported.
