Crimes Nearby: Police Crack Down on Illegal Alcohol Sales, Assault Arrest

The following crime report and arrest information was supplied by the Nassau County and Rockville Centre Police Departments. It does not indicate a conviction.

Crimes in West Hempstead, Valley Stream, Elmont, Malverne and Franklin Square:

Prohibited Sale of Alchoholic Beverages

In response to community complaints, police officers from Nassau County's Fifth Precinct conducted an investigation at the Mobil gas station on Hempstead Turnpike in West Hempstead for prohibited sale of alcohol. It resulted in the arrest of Surinder Jakhu, of Bellrose, on Sept. 14 for selling an alchoholic beverage to a minor.

In response to complaints, the Fifth Precinct cops also investigated the Shell gas station on Linden Boulevard in Elmont and arrested Vikas Brahmbhatt, of Flushing, on Sept. 14, for selling alcohol to a minor.

A third investigation at Quick Stop Mini Mart on New Hyde Park Road in Franklin Square, also led to the arrest on Sept. 14 of Harinder Singh, of New Hyde Park, for selling an alcoholic beverage to a minor.

After Hours Sale of Alcoholic Beverages

In response to complaints from the community, Fifth Precinct police investigated Tudor Wine and Liquor on Elmont Road in Elmont and arrested Xim Chen, of Flushing, on Sept. 14 for conducting multiple sales of alcohol after 8 p.m. This is past the operating hours permitted by Nassau County.

Burglary

  • A home on Franklin Street in Elmont was burglarized on Sept. 14.
  • North Valley Stream home located on Welsboro Road was burglarized on Sept. 16.

Grand Larceny

  • Four vehicles were stolen from locations in Elmont between Sept. 13 and Sept. 18, including ATVs parked on 239th Street, a car parked on Caroline Avenue and another one parked in the driveway of a home on Murray Hill Street.
  • An unknown suspect stole property out of the bedroom of a victim living on Emporia Avenue inElmont on Sept. 15.
  • After leaving her vehicle unlocked while parked on Biltmore Avenue in Elmont between Sept. 17 and Sept. 18, a woman returned to find the purse she had left inside had been stolen.

Petit Larceny

  • K and K Automotive Concepts, located on Franklin Avenue in Franklin Square, reported that someone stole property from the business's yard between Sept. 13 and Sep. 14.
  • Property was stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked on Wilson Road in Valley Stream between Sept. 17 and Sept. 18.

Criminal Mischief

  • A woman in Lakeview reported that someone keyed her vehicle and removed its two side mirrors while parked on Chautauqua Avenue between Sept. 17 and Sept. 18.
  • An unidentified person broke the front glass storm door at a home on Dogwood Avenue in Franklin Square on Sept. 14, leaving the glass shatttered all over the front stoop.
  • An unkown person damaged the window of a vehicle parked on Wellington Road S in Garden City South on Sept. 16.
  • The owner of a vehicle parked on Franklin Avenue in Franklin Square on Sept. 16 reported that an unknown person cut four feet of the vehicle's tail pipe.
  • An unknown person broke the window of a vehicle parked on Murray Hill Street in Elmont on Sept. 17.
  • A woman who parked her car in the lot of Pathmark on Franklin Avenue in Franklin Square on Sept. 18 reported that someone keyed the passenger side of the vehicle.

Crimes in Rockville Centre

Arrest:

  • On Sept. 8 at 7:55 p.m., Dolores Gutierrez, 64, of Far Rockaway, was arrested for petit larceny following an investigation by police personnel at Home Goods, located at 150 N. Village Ave. in Rockville Centre.
  • On Sept. 11 at 12:05 a.m., Matthew F. Micelli, 18, of Rockville Centre was arrested for second-degree criminal sale of marijuana following an investigation by police personnel on Merrick Road in Rockville Centre.
  • On Sept. 9 at 5:40 p.m., Steven Lukes, 55, of Rockville Centre, was arrested for second-degree assault (two counts), second-degree obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest and third-degree criminal trespass following a police investigation on Clinton Avenue that resulted in two police officers being injured. One police officer sustained a hand injury and second police officer sustained a knee injury while effectuating the arrest of the defendant.

Larceny:

  • On Sept. 9 at 12:20 p.m., a complainant from Aster Drive in New Hyde Park reported that unknown person(s) stole $700 and a cell phone from her motor vehicle parked in the rear of 178 Sunrise Highway in Rockville Centre.
  • On Sept. 12 at 6:30 p.m., an Oceanside resident reported his bicycle was stolen from the bike rack near the LIRR station at Front Street/N. Park Avenue.
  • On Sept. 13, a complainant from Lenox Road in Rockville Centre reported that on Sept. 11 sometime between 8 a.m. and noon, unknown person(s) stole an iPad valued at $950 from his 2011 Chevrolet that was parked in the rear of 30 Lenox Road in Rockville Centre.
