A round-up of the top crime stories of the week from neighboring communities.

The following information was supplied by the Nassau County Police Department, Rockville Centre Police Department and Garden City Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation, and does not indicate guilt.

Arrests

  • On June 5 at 12:54 a.m., David Terry Jr., 26, of Hempstead, was arrested for aggravated unlicensed operation in the second degree and speeding following an investigation by police personnel in the vicinity of N. Centre Avenue and Lakeview Avenue in Rockville Centre.

  • On June 5 at 3:05 a.m., Vincenzo Peter Gavrity, 20, of Staten Island, was arrested for aggravated unlicensed operation in the first degree and vehicle and traffic law violations following an investigation by police personnel in the vicinity of Front Street and N. Village Avenue in Rockville Centre.

  • On June 7 at 1:07 a.m., Valerie D. Pettway, 51, of Rockville Centre, was arrested for menacing in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree following an investigation by police personnel at her N. Centre Avenue residence.

  • On June 10 at 2:08 a.m., Alberto Benavides, 59, reportedly homeless, was arrested for criminal possession of marijuana in the fifth degree and unlawful possession of marijuana following an investigation by police personnel in the vicinity of Morris Avenue and Cedar Avenue in Rockville Centre.

  • On June 15, a joint investigation between the Garden City Police Department and Wells Fargo Bank resulted in the arrest of a 49-year-old female from Brooklyn for identity theft, grand larceny, possession of a forged instrument and an open New York Parole Administrative Warrant. On June 13, the subject made an unauthorized withdrawal of $6,000 using a forged license of another. She was arrested on June 14 when she returned to the bank to make more unauthorized transactions.

  • On June 15, a Garden City police officer stopped a vehicle at Meadow Street for speeding (45 MPH) southbound on Clinton Road. It was determined that the driver, a 29-year-old male from Hempstead, had five license suspensions for failure to answer traffic tickets and one administrative license revocation. The subject was subsequently arrested for two counts of driving with a revoked license, unlicensed operation, speeding and two equipment violations.

  • On June 16, Garden City detectives stopped a vehicle for passing a stop sign Willow Street and Boylston Street. An investigation at scene resulted in the driver, a 44-year-old male from Williston Park, being arrested for driving with a suspended license, driving with a suspended registration, possession of alleged crack cocaine and passing a stop sign.

  • On June 17, a Garden City lieutenant, stopped a 51-year-old male from Elmont for speeding (51 MPH) and almost striking a pedestrian on Franklin Avenue and Fourth Street. The driver was then arrested for one felony count and two misdemeanor counts of aggravated unlicensed operation for having 15 open driver's license suspensions and two DWI-related suspensions.

  • On June 17, as the result of an investigation on Pell Terrace in the vicinity of Clinton Road, Garden City detectives arrested a 19-year-old male from Garden City for misdemeanor possession of alleged marijuana.

  • Robbery (attempt)

    • On June 9 at 3:04 a.m., a complainant from Rockville Centre reported that at approximately 2:40 a.m., an unknown male punched him in the right eye and attempted to forcibly take a wallet from his pants rear pocket while in the vicinity of Dogwood Lane and Hempstead Avenue in Rockville Centre. The unknown male was reportedly last observed fleeing on foot northbound on Hempstead Avenue with no proceeds.

    Assault

    • On June 4 at 8:43 p.m., a complainant from Rockville Centre reported that a male acquaintance punched him on the left side of the face while in the vicinity of N. Forest Avenue and Maple Avenue in Rockville Centre resulting in injuries requiring medical attention at South Nassau Communities Hospital.

    Harassment

    • On June 8 at 10 p.m., a complainant from Rockville Centre reported that his 15-year-old sons were hit with potatoes thrown from a black SUV motor vehicle while in the vicinity of Long Beach Road and Lakeview Avenue in Rockville Centre.

    • On June 8 at 8:28 p.m., multiple complainants from Rockville Centre reported that they were hit with eggs thrown from a black SUV motor vehicle while in the vicinity of Morris Ave and Lakeview Avenue in Rockville Centre.
