Crimes Nearby: RVC Bank Robbery, Five Pounds of Marijuana

A roundup of major crimes that occurred in areas near Malverne and West Hempstead.

A North Woodmere man was arrested after a bank robbery that occurred Friday morning in Rockville Centre.

According to Nassau County detectives, around 9:20 a.m. the defendant, Jamie Bernard, 22, entered the TD Bank at 290 Merrick Road and allegedly handed a demand note to a teller. After obtaining an undetermined amount of money, Bernard fled out the rear door into a municipal parking lot.

At 10:50 a.m., Bureau of Special Operations officers located Bernard, who was hiding behind a garage on S. Marion Place and placed him under arrest without incident, police said.

A Baldmin man was arrested on Friday in Lynbrook for possessing more than five pounds of marijuana, according to the Nassau County Narcotics Squad.

Around 2:10 p.m., Haja Ramalanjaona, 26, of Baldwin, was allegedly observed in Lynbrook by Narcotics/Vice Bureau detectives, who were assisting the Lynbrook Police Department with an ongoing investigation, in possession of the drugs, police said.

Ramalanjaona was charged with criminal possession of marijuana in the second degree.

Arrests:

  • Junior R. Suriel, 27, of Rockville Centre, was arrested on Aug. 25 regarding an open case for an incident that reportedly occurred in the Nassau County Fifth Precinct.
  • Gregory Flagg, 25, of Lakeview, was arrested on Aug. 26 for disorderly conduct and obstructing governmental administration following an investigation by police personnel in the vicinity of 324 Merrick Road in Rockville Centre.
  • Bryant S. Bethea, 22, of Rockville Centre, was arrested on Aug. 29 for petit larceny following a police investigation at CVS, located at 155 Sunrise Highway in Rockville Centre.
  • Yelena Fridrickson, 58, of Brooklyn, was arrested on Sept. 4 and charged with shoplifting assorted merchandise at Costco on Rockaway Turnpike in North Lawrence.
  • Russell Moskowitz, 44, of Long Beach was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated at East Park Avenue and Lincoln Boulevard on Sept. 4.
  • Bradley Vercosa, 19, of Valley Stream, was arrested on Aug. 31 on Merrick Road and charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
  • Baldwin resident Haja Ramalanjaona, 26, was arrested on Sept. 2 on Broadway and charged with possession of marijuana.
  • On Sept. 5 at 7:15 p.m., Dominick Morda, 32, of Lynbrook, was arrested on Sunrise Hwy and charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
