Cyclist Hit by Hempstead Town Sanitation Truck

Bike rider suffers head and neck injuries after accident on Hempstead Turnpike in West Hempstead.

A Town of Hempstead sanitation truck hit a cyclist on Hempstead Turnpike on the West Hempstead-Hempstead border early Thursday morning.

According to police at the scene, the man had been riding his bike eastbound when he was struck by the vehicle as it proceeded northbound from Front Street. He suffered head and neck injuries, and was transported by Nassau County EMS ambulance to a nearby hospital.

Nassau County and Hempstead police were on the scene conducting an investigation.
