Does Old Country Road Need Speed Signs?

Would electronic signs work to slow down traffic?

With the spate of crashes near shopping centers, is it time to install electronic devices that flash a car's speed?

You know the ones: As you approach a sign tells you how fast you're going. They're in various towns around Long Island. So far, Plainview doesn't have one.

Do you think such a sign would work to slow you down.

What about others; would they heed the warning in front of Morton Village or the John's Farms lot?

Is there another solution to prevent more accidents along Old Country Road?

We need to do something...there have been way too many accidents along Old Country Road and South Oyster Bay Road. The speed signs can only help!

i dont believe signs help. people know they are speeding and dont care. they are only interested iin themselves. Did the no texting while driving law work answer is no so why should this. something only works when someone gets hurt or killed who is close to the person speeding and then they scream why didnt someone stop the speeding.

I don't believe that electronic signs will help. The problem as I see it is that some drivers have no skills to enter on to a busy road. Look at the people who right turn on red without stopping. Some people believe they don't have to stop, that they are allowed to turn on red, period. Also the turns on to and from the center lane are a casue of accidents, some people don't turn their heads to look for traffic, they only use their mirrors. There is just too much traffic on old country road, and a lot of it is caused by the poorly designed, outdated intersection of 135 and old country road

We truly do not know if the signs will help, but one thing for sure...They can't hurt. Lets get it installed. Al G

Al G. has a point. They may not work, but they may raise awareness. The distracted drivers are clearly taking their toll on roadways. I'm not sure of the solution, but something should be done or, at least, tried.
