Driver, Passenger Flee Scene of Serious Crash
Eyewitnesses say car ran traffic light, cause three-car accident in West Hempstead.
Two unidentified subjects who were allegedly involved in a three-car crash in West Hempstead Saturday night fled the scene, according to police and eyewitnesses.
The witnesses say the driver of a sedan failed to stop at a red light at the intersection of Woodfield Road and Chestnust Street, smashing head-on into an SUV and pinning its driver. They then saw the two occupants of the sedan flee the scene immediately.
The crash caused a third vehicle to be involved in an accident, which seriously injured the two occupants. They were transported to the hospital. Firefighters worked with hydraulic tools to free the driver of the SUV, stabilize him and prepare him for transfer to Winthrop Medical Center.
