Drunk Driver Plows Into Parked Car, Traps Passengers

Lakeview firefighters have busy Thursday, responding to two serious accidents.

Thursday was busy day for Lakeview volunteer firefighters.

Around 6 a.m., they were called to the CVS store on Hempstead Avenue in West Hempstead, receiving a report of that two passengers were trapped inside an overturned.

Upon arrival, they discovered that an alleged drunk driver had plowed into the car, which had been parked in the CVS lot, according to Chief Heather Senti. The two female passengers trapped inside were also allegedly drunk as well, according to a source at the scene, who said witnesses saw them vomiting on the side of the road after the crash.

The two injured passengers were taken by Nassau County ambulance to Winthrop Hospital.

The driver, who was taken into custody by Nassau County Police, was reportedly the same person who drove drunk on the railroad tracks near Hempstead Gardens four years ago, causing the railroad to be shut down for several hours during rush hour.

Later that day, Lakeview firefighters were later called to another serious accident on Evergreen Drive, where a landscaper fell from his truck and was run over by his own trailer. Lakeview's Emergency Medical Squad packaged the patient, who was a multi-trauma, and worked with Nassau County Police's Ambulance Bureau to transport him to Winthrop University Hospital. Evergreen Drive was shutdown for the accident investigation.
