ERFD to Host 4th Battalion Parade

The parade will be this Saturday starting at 6 p.m.

The East Rockaway Fire Department will host the Nassau County 4th Battalion Parade this year on Saturday, June 23. The 4th Battalion is a grouping of several area fire departments including East Rockaway, Lakeview, Lynbrook, Malverne and Rockville Centre.

The annual 4th Battalion Parade not only recognizes the volunteer service of the local communities' first responders, but also salutes their commitment and dedication to serving the public and keeping their communities safe. 

The parade will kick-off at 6 p.m., starting on North Boulevard heading north on Rhame Avenue. It will continue to Main Street and then head east, passing the Main Street Firehouse and ending at Carrigan Point Park.

"The entire department is thrilled to be the host of this year's 4th Battalion Parade," East Rockaway Fire Department Chief Steven Torborg said. "There's no question East Rockaway and our sister departments will shine as we come together to acknowledge the selfless sacrifice and dedication to duty that our first responders and their departments make every single day."

Some street closures will be in effect for brief amounts of time in order to facilitate this event. From 5-6:30 p.m., there will be limited access to East and West Boulevards; Lawrence, Franklin, Adams and Dart Streets from Lawson Avenue to Rhame Avenue; Althouse Avenue; and also Adams Street from Rhame Avenue to 1st Avenue.

From 6-7:30 p.m., there will be limited access on Main Street from Rhame Avenue to Ocean Avenue/Carrigan Point; Ocean Avenue/Carrigan Point from Main Street to Atlantic Avenue; as well as all of Cammerer Avenue and Front Street.

After the parade concludes, a block party will be held at Carrigan Point Park. The community is invited and the event is open to the public.

"The East Rockaway Fire Department invites every area resident down to Carrigan Point Park immediately following the battalion parade for a wonderful block party that will feature music and dancing, food, beverages and enjoyment for all," Torborg added.
