Fire Marshal: Fire at Davison Avenue School Ruled Arson

An investigator from the Nassau County Fire Marshal's office determines the cause of the fire at Davison Avenue School to be arson.

An investigation into what caused the at Davison Avenue School in the early morning of Nov. 7 revealed that someone intentionally started the blaze.

"In a nut shell, it's arson," said Michael Mennella, the Nassau County Fire Marshal investigator assigned to the case.

The fire caused substantial damage to three buses that were parked in the rear school yard of Davison Avenue School, an elementary school located in Lynbrook that is part of the Malverne school district. Mennella said it was clear that someone set fire to the middle bus and the wind drove the flames into the other two that were parked close by on either side. These buses had been by the Malverne Union Free School District to provide transportation to its parochial high school students. The fire also caused some minor damage to the portable classrooms at Davison Avenue School.
