Gunman Arrested in Malverne for Armed Robbery

Cops say Lakeview man robbed taxi driver early Friday morning.

Police apprehended a Lakeview man in Malverne early Friday morning after he allegedly robbed a taxi driver at gunpoint.

Clarence Meekins, 26, of Lakeview, was arrested around 1:45 a.m. on Nov. 4 on School Street, according to Malverne Police Chief John Aresta.

Meekins reportedly robbed a taxi driver on Beverly Road in Lakeview shortly after 1 a.m. and then fled on foot into Malverne, Aresta told Patch.

He ran across the athletic fields of Malverne High School but police officers from Malverne, Lynbrook and Nassau County established a perimeter along School Street, Ocean Avenue and North Cambridge Street.

A foot pursuit ensued on Wicks Lane, where police say Meekins dropped a handgun and an undisclosed amount of cash. He was soon captured near Howard T. Herber Middle School in Malverne.

Meekins was charged with armed robbery and was arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead.
