Box Truck Slams Into Utility Pole on Hempstead Avenue

Rush hour traffic in Malverne and Lynbrook was backed up Friday afternoon after a box truck struck and cracked a utility pole at the intersection of the "Five Corners," near Cross Island Fruits.

The side of the truck was sheared open and the pole was cracked in two, but remained intact. Emergency power crews were called to the scene to repair the damage.

Police had Hempstead Avenue closed in both directions with traffic diverted onto Lakeview, Franklin, and Hendrickson Avenues. There was no loss of power reported in the area.
