Inmate Killed in Jail Was Arrested in West Hempstead

Antwan Brown, 26, of Long Beach, died Saturday after fighting with another prisoner.

The inmate killed Saturday after fighting with another prisoner at the  had been doing time for crimes committed in West Hempstead.

The deceased inmate has been identified as , 26, of Long Beach. According to Nassau County Police, Brown became involved in a physical confrontation with a fellow inmate before 7 a.m. Saturday. He suffered several contusions and was pronounced dead by hospital staff shortly after.

The other prisoner is currently in custody. Homicide detectives are still  the incident.

According to a previous police report, Brown was arrested on attempted robbery and assault charges in West Hempstead on Nov. 25, 2010. Cops said he had attacked and attempted to rob a woman at the White Castle on Hempstead Turnpike.
