Lakeview Man Charged With Assaulting Cop at Hospital

A Lakeview man allegedly attacked a police officer at the Nassau University Medical Center, causing him to suffer a severe leg fracture.

A Lakeview man has been charged with assaulting a cop Friday night at the Nassau University Medical Center. According to the Nassau County Police, one of their officers suffered a severe fracture to his leg after he was assaulted in the emergency room of the East Meadow hospital on Dec. 24. 

Detectives report that the officer was requested at 12:50 a.m. to assist public safety officers who were engaged in a struggle with a patient. At that point, police said the patient, Warren Coffie, 27, of Lakeview, became violent and a struggle ensued. A second officer responded, secured Coffie and made the arrest.

After the arrest was made, police say that an employee of the hospital, Tony McGee, 47, of Greenlawn, became physically confrontational with the officer and attempted to pull Coffie away, which led to McGee's subsequent arrest.

Coffie was charged with second degree assault.McGee was charged with resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration. Both defendants will be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Saturday.
