They lined the overpasses of the Southern State Parkway Friday afternoon and hung American flags to mark the homecoming of injured FDNY firefighter Robert Wiedmann, of Islip Terrace.

Wiedmann, 38, was critically injured battling a blaze in Brooklyn in December 2011, "sustaining burns to over 40 percent of his body, including his head, face and back," according to CBS News. He was released today from New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center.
