Lynbrook Man Arrested on Gun, Drug Charges

The defendant, Brian Stephens, allegedly had more than 400 Valium and other pills, along with a loaded 12-gauge shotgun.

A Lynbrook man was arrested by New York State Police Sunday night after allegedly providing a BAC of .19 percent and being found with a loaded shotgun.

According to state police, at 11:44 p.m., a state trooper stopped a black Jeep Cherokee for making an illegal U-turn on Old Country Road in Westbury on the Wantagh Parkway overpass.

While interviewing the vehicle's operator, Brian Stephens, 34, of Lynbrook, the trooper observed signs of intoxication. Police said Stephens had slurred speech, poor motor coordination, bloodshot watery eyes and a strong odor of marijuana and alcohol.

According to police, Stephens failed the sobriety tests he was given and was arrested for driving while intoxicated. 

A search of the Jeep resulted in the recovery of more than 400 Valium and other assorted pills and a small amount of marijuana, police said. A loaded 12-gauge shotgun and ammunition was also found in the trunk.

Stephens was arrested for felony DWI, criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, felony unlicensed operation, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, controlled substance not in original container and several traffic violations.

Stephens was held for arraignment in Nassau County First District Court on Monday.
