Lynbrook PD: Anti-Semitic Graffiti Painted on Lynbrook School Building and More

A weekly rundown of arrests and crimes reported in the village of Lynbrook.

The following information was supplied by the Lynbrook Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation, and does not indicate guilt.

Arrests

  • Brian G. Maguire, 31, of Bellmore, was arrested on Dec. 11 at 8:45 p.m. and charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation and Failure to Signal a Turn on Merrick Road.
  • Georgena Verdieu, 17, of Laurelton, was arrested on  Dec. 11 at 10:08 p.m. and charged with Unlawful Possession of Marijuana at the Lynbrook Capri Motor Inn located at 8 Freer St.
  • Milton Vela, 58, of Elmont, was arrested on Dec. 14 at 6:30 p.m. and charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation and Insufficient Brake Lights on Hempstead Avenue.
  • Darrin B. White, 42, of Brooklyn, was arrested on Dec. 15 at 8:15 a.m. and charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation and Improper Registration Plates on Sunrise Highway.
  • Humberto Benitez, 26, of Far Rockaway, was arrested on Dec. 15 at 3:30 p.m. and charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, Expired NYS Inspection and Uninsured Motor Vehicle on Sunrise Highway.
  • Herbert De-Laine III,  22, of Far Rockaway, was arrested on Dec. 15 at 7:40 p.m. and charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana on Merrick Road.
  • Eric H. Behr, 52, of Roosevelt, was arrested on Dec. 16 at 11:35 a.m. and charged with Petit Larceny from Rite Aid, located at 400 Sunrise Hwy, and Unlawful Possession of Personal Identification Information. Upon the defendant’s arrest, he was found to be in possession of another person’s credit card information.
  • Katrina A. Cruz, 19, of Hewlett, was arrested on Dec. 16 at 2 p.m. and charged with Assault (2 counts) on Crescent Street in Hewlett. The defendant was involved in a physical altercation on Second Street.
  •  Xueyan Gong, 44, of Fresh Meadows, was arrested on Dec. 19 at 4:35 p.m. and charged with Unauthorized Practice at 337 Merrick Rd. The defendant, while employed as a massage therapist at Red Apple Spa, did perform a massage without being licensed by the State of New York.
  • Nigel R. Thomas, 39, of Brooklyn, was arrested on Dec. 21 at 10:58 a.m. and charged with an open warrant for Assault on Sunrise Highway.
  • Jorge A. Sanchez, 45, of Uniondale, was arrested on Dec. 21 at 5:55 p.m. and charged with False Personation, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation and Failure to Obey a Traffic Control Device on Scranton Avenue.
  • Jonathan J. Nunez, 31, of Far Rockaway, was arrested on Dec. 23 at 4:10 a.m. and charged with two counts of Aggravated Unlicensed Operation on Peninsula Boulevard.

Case Reports

Grand Larcenies:

  • A complainant reports at 2:05 p.m. on Dec. 13 thethat an unknown person(s) did cash three checks from their insurance company that were fraudulently endorsed. The checks were cashed for a total of $20,655.87. 
  • At noon on Dec. 14, the manager of Legacy Infiniti located at 855 Sunrise Hwy. reports that an unknown person(s) removed four tires and rims from a 2009 Infiniti. The total loss is $8,000.
  • At 12:30 p.m. on Dec. 21, the owner of South Shore Endodontics, located at 483 Scranton Ave., reports that an unknown person(s) did remove a Loupes dental tool from their office. The tool was taken between Dec. 15 and Dec. 17 and is valued at $2,000.
  • At 7:30 a.m. on Dec. 22, a complainant reports that an unknown person(s) removed a Raccoon jacket, a Suede jacket and a vacuum from their residence. The value of the property is 3,600.

Grand Larceny/ Criminal Mischief - At 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 13, a complainant reports that an unknown person(s) broke the rear driver’s side window of their 2009 Mercedes Benz while it was parked at 19 Wilbur St. The person(s) removed the complainant’s pocketbook, wallet and credit cards from the vehicle. The total loss is $950.

Petit Larceny/ Criminal Mischief - At 7:10 a.m. on Dec. 14, a complainant reports that an unknown person(s) broke the front passenger side window of their 2001 Acura while it was parked in their driveway on Farnum Street. The person(s) removed an unknown amount of change from the vehicle.

Criminal Mischief/ Bias Incident- A complainant reports at 12:45 p.m. on Dec. 14 that an unknown person(s) spray painted graffiti on the south side of the Lynbrook School Administration Building. The graffiti consisted of a Swastika, Star of David and 6+6.  

Assault- At 2:55 a.m. on Dec. 23, a complainant reports that an unknown person(s) did strike him in the face with an unknown object while he was standing on the sidewalk in front of 105 Broadway.

Petit Larcenies

  • At 10:55 a.m. on Dec. 16., a complainant reports that an unknown person(s) entered their 2005 Toyota while it was parked in their driveway on Randall Avenue. The person(s) removed a carbon monoxide detector, flashlight, tape measure, rain suit, boots and work gloves. The total loss is $204.
  • At 6:10 p.m. on Dec. 22, a complainant reports that an unknown person(s) entered their locker while they were at Sportime, located at 175 Merrick Rd. The person(s) then removed their Apple iPhone and cash from the locker. The total loss is $320.

Identity Theft - A complainant reports at 4:39 p.m. on Dec. 18 that an unknown person(s) made fraudulent charges to their Astoria Savings Debit card. The total amount of charges is $1,694.02.  

Criminal Mischief  

  • At 12:40 a.m. on Dec. 23, a complainant reports that an unknown person(s) did damage the rear of their 2005 Honda while it was parked in their driveway on Evergreen Ave. The total amount of the damage is unknown at this time.
  •  At 12:57 a.m. on Dec. 23, the owner of Zcom Wireless located at 677 Sunrise Hwy. reports that an unknown person(s) did damage the front glass door of their business. The total loss is $700.
