Lynbrook PD: Teen Arrested, Clerk Charged With Selling to Minor

A weekly rundown of arrests and case reports from the Lynbrook Police Department.

The following information was supplied by the Lynbrook Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation, and does not indicate convictions.


  • Alan C. Sobel, 52, of East Rockaway, was arrested on July 6 at 8:54 p.m/ and charged with open warrants for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, Unlicensed Operation, Failure to Obey Traffic Control Device and Petit Larceny on Wright Avenue.
  • Nelson Rogel, 21, of Far Rockaway, was arrested on July 7 at 8:10 a.m. and charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation and Fractured Windshield on Hempstead Avenue.
  • Dilip M. Shah, 55, of Mineola, was arrested on July 7 at 9:05 p.m. and charged with Unlawfully Dealing with a Child at 393 Sunrise Hwy. The defendant, while employed as a clerk at Lynbrook Wine and Liquor, allegedly sold one 750ML bottle of Whipped Cream Smirnoff Vodka to a 16-year-old youth.

Case Reports

ID Theft: A complainant reported on July 2 at 7:05 p.m. that an unknown person(s) did file a tax return in their name and did receive a refund in the complainant’s name.

Criminal Mischief–  A person reported at 11:11 a.m. on July 4 that an unknown person(s) did damage their PVC fencing, located on Hollywood Avenue, by spray-painting it with blue paint. The value of the damage is $400.

Tara that's good news. I would feel better knowing about the risks in my community should we have them. Finding out about a rash of certain crimes does us no good after we become a victim. Much thanks to the Malverne PD for the sharing of information.

I had never asked for a monthly one. I had asked for a weekly police blotter, but was told they couldn't commit to doing that because it's a lot of work and they don't have the manpower to consistently do it. They do, however, already file monthly reports with the village so this is what they will be sharing with us.

However, they do have enough money to let a cruiser set on Hempstead Ave empty, all day everyday. A decoy seems like a waste of money to me.
