Lynbrook Softball Game a Win for Wounded Warriors [Photos]

Lynbrook Baptist Church and Fire Department go head-to-head in charity softball game.

For the third consecutive year, the Lynbrook Baptist Church and the Lynbrook Volunteer Fire Department met on the diamond at Greis Park on Oct. 13 for the annual charity softball game.

The church players won the first match-up in 2010. The firefighters were the victors in 2011. So this year's game would be the tie-breaker.

Lynbrook Fire Chief Anthony "Zemo" DeCarlo tossed out the first pitch of the action-packed game. Ultimately, the Baptists could not best the bats of the Lynbrook FD, who won 11-5. But the efforts of both teams, their loyal fan bases, and donors raised $6,735 for the Nassau County Firefighters' Operation Wounded Warrior, a non-profit that aids disabled vets.

Rev. Bob Walderman, of the Lynbrook Baptist Church and one of the team's pitchers, presented a check to the fire department and a representative for Operation Wounded Warrior last Sunday at the end of the 11:45 a.m. worship service.

To date, the three softball games have raised more than $20,000 in total. Last year, funds were donated to the Nassau County Coalition Against Domestic Violence.
