Malverne FD Extinguishes Car Fire on Southern State

The incident occurred late Monday night.

At 11:22 p.m. Monday night, the Malverne Fire Department was dispatched to a car fire with a person still inside the vehicle on the Southern State Parkway, westbound, between exits 17 and 18.

Malverne Units 431, 438 and 432 responded under the command of Chief Scott Edwards. When firefighters arrived they found the driver was out of the burning vehicle.

Two lanes of the parkway were closed by New York State Police while firefighters stretched a hose line and extinguished the burning Ford Explorer.

There were no reported injuries.

Firefighters were on the scene for approximately 40 minutes.
