Malverne PD: House Guest Steals and Pawns Jewelry, Check Fraud

A weekly rundown of crimes and arrests reported in the village of Malverne.

The following information was supplied by the Malverne Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation, and does not indicate guilt.

Case Reports

  • A Foster Avenue resident reported on Aug. 7 that unknown person(s) did attempt to draw seven checks from the complainant’s bank by forging his/her name and account number. The case is being investigated by the Malverne Police Department.
  • A Franklin Avenue resident reported on Aug. 10 that she is missing numerous pieces of jewelry from her and her daughter’s rooms. Complainant states that she allowed a person to stay in the house with her from September 2011 through June 19, 2012. On June 26, the complainant noticed some jewelry missing and when she confronted her guest the woman admitted to taking the jewelry and pawning it in Baldwin. Some jewelry has been recovered at this time. The complainant wishes the subject to be arrested and prosecuted. The case is being investigated by the Malverne Police and the Nassau County Police's Fifth Precinct Detective Squad.

  • A 38-year-old Malverne resident was arrested on Aug. 7 at 3:03 p.m. while travelling south on Franklin Avenue in the vicinity of Foster Avenue. The vehicle was stopped for having illegally tinted windows and the driver was found to be operating the vehicle with a suspended New York State Driver’s license. The subject was placed under arrest and transported to Malverne Police Headquarters for processing. The subject was released on $250 cash bail and will appear in Malverne Justice Court at a later date.
