Malverne Teen Arrested in Lakeview Robbery Scam

Gun fired in attempted robbery on Sunday.

A Malverne teen was among four people arrested for an attempted robbery in Lakeview Sunday.

According to Nassau County detectives, Kayla Gries, 17, of Malverne, set up a meeting with a 32-year-old man on Pine Lake Drive under the pretense of obtaining a job from him.

Police said that Gries conspired with three co-defendants to rob the man instead.

As Gries walked up to the car, police said the 32-year-old victim noticed a male standing near the door. The victim fled the scene after becoming fearful for his safety.

As the victim fled the area, police said that 27-year-old Jason Thurmond, of New Hyde Park, fired a gunshot into the victim’s car, striking the front dashboard.

Also at scene and involved in the robbery were Michael Thompson, 24, of Lakeview and Jamal Davis, 27, of Hempstead, police said.

The firearm was recovered and no injuries were reported.

All four defendants are being charged with robbery in the first degree (attempt).

Gries, Thurmond and Davis are additionally being charged with conspiracy in the fourth degree.

Thurmond is also being charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree.

Gries, Thurmond and Davis were arraigned on Monday. Thompson will be arraigned on Tuesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
