Man May Face Charges in Malverne Firefighter's Death

A man who accidentally shot and killed a Malverne firefighter in a hunting accident this past weekend could be facing charges, according to reports.

Charles Bruce, 52, was shot Saturday in the woods in the Town of Westford, Otsego County, according to state police.

Otsego County District Attorney John Muehl may convene a grand jury to consider homicide charges in the case, even though state police ruled the shooting an accident, according to CBS Local.

The shooter is an associate member of the department, which is a voluntary, non-firefighting role that many members switch to after more than 10 years of service, according to David Gildea, a firefighter and public information officer for the Malverne Fire Department.

Police have not identified the shooter in the case.
