Nearby: RVC Resident Arrested for Hempstead Murder

Defendant arrested Saturday evening for April murder.

A Rockville Centre resident was arrested Saturday night for the April murder of a 34-year-old Hempstead man.

Keon O. Williams, 37, of Rockville Centre, has been charged with murder in the second degree and will be arraigned on Sunday at First District Court in Hempstead.

According to Nassau County detectives, around 3:50 p.m. on April 13, Tyree Sheppard was found lying on the sidewalk in front of 39 Burnett St. in Hempstead, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Police said a Hempstead resident who found Sheppard on the ground flagged down a Hempstead Police Officer on routine patrol.

A North Shore Long Island Jewish ambulance transported Sheppard to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead at 4:43 p.m. by a staff physician, police said.

Homicide Squad detectives, along with Bureau of Special Operations officers, located Williams on Saturday, May 4, in East Garden City and placed him under arrest.
