No. 70: Make Plans to Attend the End of Summer Block Party

One of 100 things to do in the village.

No. 70 in the Patch series “100 things to do in Lynbrook” is to make plans to attend the End of Summer Block Party and the "Salute to Our Heroes" fundraiser.

The end of summer is here, school starts next week, Hurricane Irene is now a memory and life continues to move on.

Accepting the end of the summer has been a very hard one for many people here in Lynbrook. We experienced many severe thunderstorms, an earthquake that shook many of us up and Irene. Now that all of that is behind us, why not make plans to attend what is sure to be a fun event for the whole family.

This is not just an end of summer block party - it is also a salute to our heroes fundraiser.

The Lynbrook Fire Department will be hosting this fundraiser for wounded warriors from 5 to 11 p.m. at the Rescue, Hook, Ladder and Bucket Company #1’s firehouse located at 189 Earle Avenue on Saturday, Sept. 10.

All of the proceeds from this event will benefit the Nassau County Firefighters-Operation Wounded Warriors. They will be raising money and collecting supplies for the U.S. military personnel that have been injured in the line of duty. At the end of this year the Lynbrook firefighters will join others from Nassau County and provide holiday gifts to our injured servicemen and servicewomen.

If you can’t attend this event please consider donating money or supplies to help.

The cost to end this party is $20 per person which includes food, live music and two free drinks. Servicemen in uniform will be admitted free.

They are accepting donations of socks, t-shrits, gym shorts, sweat pants, calling cards, bicycles, toiletries, anything that could be useful for our wounded veterans under care in the hospital. Additionally, the 2011 NCFF-OWW t-shirts will be on sale.

If you would like more information or to make a donation please call Kevin Bien at 516-993-6074.

This is a great time to get out with your friends and family and help those who need it. Lynbrook is a great community that always pulls together when needed - let's not change that now.

That’s very nice that school districts that have the highest school taxes and costs, areRead More receiving additional money. The problem is that our state is in dire financial trouble and we can’t afford it. Upstate NY is a distressed disaster. How much more taxes are we going to pay?. Hear those feet marching out of state. Try fighting for drilling so we have jobs and revenue.

.......there they go again whitewashing a dilemma they don't want to touch......unconscionableRead More salaries and pensions paid by the taxpayer for incompetence? Not to mention 13 week vacations as well as numerous 1/2 days and weather shortened days. A $50000 band aid we end up paying indirectly anyway only increases taxes further down the road. They are either that stupid or they think we are!
