Pair Robbed at Gunpoint in West Hempstead

Two victims in their 20s were robbed early Sunday morning.

A 24-year-old man and 23-year-old woman were robbed at gunpoint early Sunday while walking in West Hempstead.

Nassau County Police are investigating the incident, which occurred around 3 a.m. Detectives said the two victims were walking in the vicinity of Hempstead Turnpike and Broad Street when they were approached by an unknown black male suspect displaying a handgun.

The suspect demanded money from the male victim, who surrendered his wallet, police said. It contained an unknown amount of U.S. currency and personal papers. Then, the robber grabbed the female victim’s pocketbook, which also contained an unknown amount of U.S. currency and personal papers, police said.

No injuries were reported.

The subject fled on foot southbound on Broad Street and was seen entering a newer model two-door red Honda. The vehicle, which was occupied by two unknown black male suspects, fled the scene eastbound on Hempstead Turnpike.

The subject is further described as approximately 20 years of age, 6’-feet tall, with a thin build, wearing blue jeans and a black-hooded sweatshirt.
