Update: Cops ID Victim in Fatal Hit-and-Run

Nassau County Police said Jeremias Chavarria was the victim of a deadly hit and run that happened Sunday morning in Hempstead.

Chavarria, 39, of Hempstead, was crossing Fulton Avenue near Bennett Avenue when he was struck by a 2000 black BMW, with NY registration number GEU3305, traveling west on Peninsula Boulevard, according to police. The vehicle fled the scene of the accident west on Peninsula, police said.

Chavarria was transported by the Long Island Jewish Ambulance to the Nassau University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 1:40 am by hospital personnel, police said.
