Police Searching for Burglary Suspect in West Hempstead

Nassau County Police helicopter spotted over "presidential section" of community.

UPDATE: Police say a suspect broke into a home on Baldwin Drive in West Hempstead around 12:37 p.m. Monday, but fled without any proceeds after he was spotted by the homeowner. Police are still investigating the case and released a descrption of the suspect, asking anyone with information regarding the crime to call Crime Stoppers. Click for more details.

For the second time this week, a Nassau County Police helicopter was hovering over West Hempstead for more than an hour.

The chopper was spotted circling around the "presidential section" of the neighborhood, near Madison Avenue and Roosevelt Boulevard, for more than an hour late Monday afternoon.

According to a spokesman for the Nassau County Police, cops are searching for a suspect who allegedly committed a burglary in the area. The officer could not reveal any further details.

On Thursday, West Hempstead residents canvassing the neighborhood, again for more than an hour. Police said they had been searching for suspects involved in an alleged car theft.
