Police Searching for WH Payless Robber

Suspect made away with cash after claiming he had a gun.

The Payless shoe store on Hempstead Turnpike in West Hempstead was robbed Monday evening after the suspect claimed that he had a gun.

According to Nassau County detectives, around 6:23 p.m., a 46-year-old female employee at Payless, located at 478 Hempstead Turnpike, was approached by a black male suspect who stated he had a gun and demanded money from the register.

The victim complied and the suspect fled on foot eastbound on Hempstead Turnpike with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said.

The victim was in the store alone at the time of the incident, police said. No injuries were reported.

The suspect was described to be between 30 and 40 years old, 6 feet tall, average build, wearing a tan jacket, blue jeans and a tan skull cap.

Detectives ask anyone with information about this crime to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.  All callers will remain anonymous.
